Volkswagen Australia has today announced it will conduct a voluntary recall of vehicles equipped with the EA189 diesel engine affected by the emissions scandal.

The recall announcement makes Australia one of the first markets to announce its recall intentions.

Information linked to the recall is limited, and no repair solution has yet been announced by Volkswagen’s head office. Until such time as one is made available Volkswagen advises its customers that no immediate action is required.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by Volkswagen Group Australia as more information becomes available.

“I want to assure all customers that the affected cars are technically safe and the necessary measures will be undertaken at no cost to them,” Volkswagen Group Australia managing ditector, John White said in a statement.

“We will do everything we can to fix this problem and regain the trust of our customers.”

VGA previously outlined which vehicles are affected (see the full list here) as well as setting up a dedicated website (you’ll need your vehicle’s VIN, which can be found at the base of the widscreen, or on the compliance plate on the driver’s B-pillar).

Alternatively Volkswagen customers can also call 1800 607 822, while and Skoda customers can contact 1800 607 540.
