Volkswagen has made its high-performance Golf R wagon a regular part of the Mark 7.5 Golf range from January 2018, announcing pricing for the final member of the Golf range following a previous announcement for the wider range.

Before the full-time Golf R wagon arrives, Volkswagen also has an early shipment of Wolfsburg Edition wagons arriving in August 2017 with 300 wagons for Australia, to be joined by a further 300 Wolfsburg Edition Golf R hatches.

Pricing for the regular Golf R wagon will start from $57,490 before on-road costs when it arrives next year, with the Wolfsburg Edition hatch starting at $57,990 or $59,990 for the wagon.

Both the regular Golf R and the Wolfsburg Edition cars are mechanically identical, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder capable of 213kW and 380Nm delivering power via a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The Golf R wagon will feature standard heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-equipped 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, adaptive suspension, and chrome roof rails.

Standard safety kit encompasses autonomous emergency braking, reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors, auto headlights and wipers and driver fatigue monitoring, with optional adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, adaptive headlights, and rear traffic alert as part of a $1300 Driver’s Assistance Package.

Additional equipment for the Wolfsburg Editions includes genuine carbon fibre mirror shells, Nappa leather trim, grey 19-inch alloy wheels and a premium 400 watt Dynaudio audio upgrade with the Driver's Assistance Package also included as standard.

A panoramic sunroof is optional for all Golf R models for an additional $1900.
