Volkswagen's Amarok pickup has been given a sporting makeover for this year's Wörthersee GTI Treffen in Austria, joining the power-boosted Design Vision GTI concept.
The debut of the Power Pickup Concept follows last year's Geneva unveiling of the offroad Canyon concept, adding a more road-focused sports look to the big ute.
Riding on big 22-inch alloys, the Power Pickup gets a sports body-kit with 60mm wider flares, carbon fibre elements throughout and a large sports bar across the back of the cab.
True to its name, the Power Pickup gets a mightier engine in the form of a 3.0 litre turbodiesel producing 200kW and 600Nm of torque. Volkswagen promises a 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.
The big six provides a hefty power boost over the current flagship in the Amarok range, driven by a 132kW and 420Nm four-cylinder turbodiesel.
Whether the Power Pickup previews a new production hero is unclear, although it is likely that elements of its sports kit will make their way to the Amarok's options list.
If nothing else, the new LED-enriched headlights should appear in a future update to the range.
