Earlier this year Volkswagen confirmed that Australian customers would be offered the most powerful factory-built Golf GTI ever to celebrate the Golf GTI’s 40th anniversary. Today that celebration continues with the announcement of a six-speed manual variant.

Known as the Golf Clubsport in Europe, the Australian Golf GTI 40 Years ramps power and torque up to 195kW and 380Nm of torque, with a 10-second 213kW overboost function.

Those outputs put the GTI 40 Years right in the middle of Golf R territory, but unlike the all-wheel-drive R, the Golf GTI 40 Years remains front-wheel-drive only.
