Lexus is inching closer to firing its new RC F coupe directly at BMW’s equally new (and rather impressive) M4 coupe.

The RC F, along with the less bonkers RC, is scheduled to hit Australia in coming months - either late in 2014 or early next year, the carmaker says.

This video sees RC F Chief Engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi outlining his team’s goals with the new performance coupe, which is only the third Lexus model to get the full ‘F’ treatment.

The new flagship performer is driven by a naturally-aspirated 5.0 litre V8 with outputs “in excess” of 330kW and 520Nm - well above the 311kW/505Nm of the now retired IS F's 5.0 V8.

As with its four-door predecessor, power will go to the rear wheels via an eight-speed sports auto.
