VFACTS November: Small SUVs Booming, Passenger Cars And LCVs Slipping Photo:

Sales of SUVs in Australia are up almost 10 percent on the same month last year, with the booming small SUV segment growing almost 33 percent, led by Hyundai’s ix35 with 1491 sales.

Overall, however, sales are down on November 2012 by 1.4 percent, with passenger cars slipping 4.7 percent and light commercial sales down 6.4 percent.

Combined sales for 2013 have now topped the one million mark, with 1,039,471 cars finding homes this year, up 2.2 percent on last year.

It’s business-as-usual at the top, with the Toyota Corolla (3894 sales) still Australia’s top-selling car while the Mazda3 (3666) still holds second place.

Toyota’s Hilux (3368) took third in the sales race, with the Hyundai i30 (3157) improving from fifth in October to fourth last month.

On the home-grown front, Holden’s VF Commodore (3097) was down slightly on last month in fifth place but up 16.5 percent on November last year, while Ford Falcon sales (1227) were up 1.7 percent.

The Toyota Aurion (607) dipped 40 percent compared with the same month last year, while the Holden Cruze (1846) managed eighth place in the top-ten seller list, although sales are down 12.7 percent on November 2012.

Ford’s Territory SUV sales (1584) were up 22.2 percent on the same month last year, seeing it almost break into the top ten while the Toyota Camry’s 2375 sales saw it retain sixth place from last month but its sales are down 24.5 percent on November last year.

Volkswagen’s Golf (2069), Mitsubishi’s Triton (1703) and the Mazda CX-5 (1700) filled the remaining positions in the top-ten, finishing seventh, ninth and tenth respectively, while the Nissan Navara 4WD (1372) dropped out of the top-ten.

Overall, Toyota was again ahead by a country mile with 18,098 sales in November followed by Holden on 10,477 and Hyundai with 8530 sales.

Mazda is close behind on 8399 sales, followed by Ford on 7914, Nissan on 5482 and Mitsubishi with 5148 sales.

Rounding out the top-ten were Volkswagen (4977), Subaru (4232) and Honda (2636).
