Nissan Motorsport has taken the wraps off its four factory-backed Altima V8 Supercars set to contest this year’s V8 Supercar Championship.

Today’s official unveiling marks the first glimpse of the official race liveries. Team co-owners and drivers Todd and Rick Kelly will continue with Jack Daniel’s livery, the brand supporting the team’s Commodore racers since 2006.

New team members Michael Caruso and James Moffat will race with yellow Norton 360 signage, similar to that used by Moffat’s Falcon-based racer in 2012.

Caruso joins Nissan Motorsport having raced a Holden for Gary Rogers Motorsport for the past five seasons, and James Moffat fresh from two seasons with Ford outfit Dick Johnson Racing.

Their appointment by Nissan Motorsport marks the first time each driver has driven for a factory race team.

Formerly known as the Kelly Racing Holden Commodore outfit, the freshly renamed Nissan Motorsport will use the upcoming Altima midsizer to represent the Japanese brand.

“The 2013 V8 Supercar Championship is an important part of the Nissan Altima’s marketing strategy,” Nissan Australia boss William Peffer Jr said.

“Australian new car buyers will have an entire year to get to know the Altima name and shape before it goes on sale later this year.”

Today’s unveiling was the first time the cars have been seen in their final race-ready spec, after the Altima racer’s initial unveiling in October last year and undergoing aerodynamic parity testing earlier this month.

The first Altima ‘Car of the Future’ racer constructed also underwent shakedown testing at Calder Park, Winton, and Sydney Motorsport Park circuits late last year.

“I’m so immensely proud of each and every person at Nissan Motorsport. So much time and effort has gone into designing, constructing and assembling our four Nissan Altima V8 Supercars,” Todd Kelly said.

“We’ve strengthened every area of our team over the last 12 months in preparation for the 2013 season and I’m confident that all our work and effort will pay off this season.”

Nissan Motorsport’s completed Altimas will hit the track with the rest of the Ford, Holden, and Mercedes-Benz AMG 2013 championship contenders for the first time at this Saturday’s V8 Supercars Championship pre-season test day at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The four Nissan Motorsport Altimas will make their race debut at the 2013 championship opening round in Adelaide from March 1-3.
