Erebus Motorsport has revealed its Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG-based V8 Supercars, at Sydney’s Allphones Arena last night.
The unveiling comes less than four months on from the team announcing it would join the 2013 championship.
The Erebus’ racers use a body based on the freshly updated 2013 E 63 AMG sports sedan, along with a unique AMG engine and aerodynamics package.
Erebus is tha last of the V8 Supercar manufacturers to show off its wares. The Holden-based teams, Ford Performance Racing, and Nissan Motorsport’s 2013 championship contenders were revealed earlier this month.
Also unveiled by Erebus were the individual liveries for the team’s three cars, and new driver Maro Engel’s first appearance alongside Lee Holdsworth and Tim Slade - who raced with Erebus’ genesis Stone Brothers Racing in 2012.
Engel’s car predominantly wears the SP Tools signage used by his predecessor Shane Van Gisbergen, while Lee Holdsworth maintains his Irwin Tools signage, and Tim Slade wears new backer HHA Heavy Haulage.
Erebus Motorsport owner Betty Klimenko spoke at the unveiling of her pride in the team’s achievement of preparing the cars in such a short time, who also managed to win the Bathurst 12 hour race with one of the team’s SLS AMG GT3 racers at the weekend.
"It’s not often in life you get to touch your dream,” Klimenko said. "I love the challenge and I love the perfection of my cars, and of my crew.”
Erebus Motorsport CEO Ryan Maddison echoed Klimenko’s satisfaction with the team’s efforts, which culminated in a marathon 109 day construction period.
“The only way that we were able to achieve what we have is because of the dedication which is found in AMG, Stone Brothers Racing and Erebus Motorsport; they are the true heroes of tonight,” Maddison said.
The Erebus E 63 racers are fitted with a de-stroked 5.0 litre version of AMG’s 6.2 litre naturally aspirated V8, most closely related to the engine used in current SLS AMG GT3 racers.
These unique V8 Supercar engines have been assembled for Erebus Motorsport in Germany through the AMG Customer Sports Program.
Erebus Motorsport’s completed E 63s will hit the track with the rest of the Ford, Holden, and Nissan 2013 championship contenders for the first time at this Saturday’s V8 Supercars Championship pre-season test day at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The three Erebus Motorsport E 63 AMGs will make their race debut at the 2013 championship opening round in Adelaide from March 1-3.
