V8 Supercars: Whincup Wins Fifth Championship In Six Years

Jamie Whincup has taken out the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship with third place in the final race of the season at the NRMA 500 at Sydney Olympic Park.

Whincup carried a 110-point lead into the final race over teammate Craig Lowndes, needing only 18th place or higher in his Red Bull Racing Holden VF Commodore to secure the crown.

Lowndes needed a poor showing from Whincup and a fifth-place finish (which he managed) to take the title, but Whincup had the edge, becoming Australian Touring Car Champion for 2013.
