Triumph has announced that it will be bringing three new models to Australia in 2012; the Speed Triple R, Tiger Explorer and Steve McQueen Edition.

All three models are due to be officially launched on November 8 at the Milan Motorcycle Show in Italy.

Triumph Speed Triple R

The Speed Triple R builds on the reputation of the Speed Triple, adding Ohlins NIX30 43mm front shocks and an Ohlins TTX36 shock at the rear.

Its lightweight PVM forged alloy wheels are 1.7kg lighter than the standard rolling stock, and further improve suspension performance.

Four-piston Brembo calipers stop the Speed Triple R, and ABS is available as an option. All up, the Speed Triple R's braking performance is 5 percent better than the regular Speed Triple.

The Speed Triple R will be offered with a choice of white or black bodywork, with a red subframe and gold forks. At this stage it's not clear what premium the 'R will cost over the current Speed Triple's retail price, however expect further details closer to its local launch.

Triumph Tiger Explorer

The Tiger Explorer will be the new flagship for the Tiger range of adventurer tourers, powered by a 1200cc three-cylinder engine and taking power to the back wheel via a shaft drive.

Triumph's new 'ride by wire' electronic throttle system will make its production debut in the Tiger Explorer, and cruise control, ABS and traction control will be standard.

Built around a sturdy steel frame, the Tiger Explorer rides on a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel and features a single-sided rear swing arm arrangement.

A wide range of accessories will be offered for the Tiger Explorer, including low and high seat options, hard luggage, soft luggage and a number of electrically powered or heated accessories.

Triumph Steve McQueen Edition

Built to honour the Hollywood legend Steve McQueen, the Bonneville T100-based Triumph Steve McQueen Edition pays homage to the Triumph Trophy TR6 that the late actor rode during the filming of The Great Escape.

Finished in a matt-khaki paint scheme with matt-black detailing, the Steve McQueen Edition is both understated and 'tough' - just like the legend of the man.

Only 1100 Triumph Steve McQueen Editions will be built.
