If the F Sport version of the upcoming Lexus GS isn't hard enough, Toyota's tuning arm Toyota Racing Development has just the ticket.

While the offshoot's trademark supercharger system is nowhere to be seen, TRD's engineers and designers have put together a package that includes minor styling add-ons and a number of bits designed to offer sharper handling for the spirited driver.

Of course, the top-shelf F Sport variants in the new GS range are not short on styling tweaks, with a unique LF-Gh-inspired grille and bumper design, along with bigger wheels and chunkier side skirts.

The F Sport models also get better-bolstered front seats and a revised suspension package.

Flicking to the TRD page in the order book will give you the option of adding splats to the bottom of the front bumper, larger side pods for the skirts, a rear apron, taller spoiler, and heat-treated titanium quad tailpipes.

Enhanced driving options include a TRD-developed suspension set, braces, exhaust system and unique blacked-out 19-inch alloy wheels.

So what about a proper hardcore GS F?

Reports of a Lexus GS F have been circulating since well before the new range's 2011 unveiling. Now that the new GS has been revealed - along with a stated desire to entice enthusiasts - the "F" badge is back in the rumour mill.

According to Britain's Autocar magazine, Lexus insiders say they "would love" to give the M3-rivalling IS F a big brother.

With just the one V6 engine option, the world's M5, S6 and E 63 buyers won't be going anywhere until there's at least two, or four, more pots under the GS's bonnet.

Australia

The new GS range will hit local showrooms in the second quarter of this year, and while availability of the TRD bits has not been confirmed, it is likely that Lexus Australia will make the catalogue available to local buyers.
