Volvo, like all vehicle manufacturers, goes to great lengths to keep all-new models under wraps - but there comes a time when the legal department must lodge trademark applications.

Now Volvo enthusiasts from, SwedeSpeed, is reporting Volvo has lodged tradmerk applications for V20 and V30 in North America and for P5, P6, P8, P9 and P10 in Europe.

Following Volvo’s traditional nomenclature, it seems likely the V20 and V30 will be compact cars as the Swedish giant desperately needs to join this growing and volume-boosting segment.

The US trademark applications for the V-models are light on details but the Swedish media is sufficiently confident to speculate they’re both compacts and one of them will be an electric vehicle.

The reports indicate Volvo’s ‘P’ applications in Europe are for “Vehicles and conveyances; Electric vehicles”.
