Toyota's upcoming Yaris HSD has been unveiled alongside the growing Prius line-up at the Geneva Motor Show.

Following in the footsteps of the Auris (Corolla) HSD concept revealed in 2009 (now on sale in Europe), the Yaris HSD features Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, offering both petrol/electric hybrid operation and short-range all-electric modes.

Few technical details have been revealed, although with its shared hybrid drivetrain, expect the Yaris HSD to offer similar fuel consumption and range figures to the Prius Plug-in Hybrid

On the styling front, the Yaris HSD concept combines the updated design of the 2011 Yaris (coming to Australia later this year) with a more sports-focused version of the styling of the Auris HSD.

Among the concept's unique features is the giant trapezoidal grille up front, flanked by tall foglight housings and headlights that include LED daytime running lights.

Large 18-inch wheels hold up the corners, with spokes designed to draw hot air away from the brakes. Low rolling-resistance tyres wrap the polished-alloy wheels.

Toyota says a production version of the Yaris HSD will roll out of its assembly plant in Valenciennes, France, by 2012. An Australian debut has yet to be confirmed.
