The Tokyo Auto Salon is a mecca for Japanese modified car fiends, but every year there's more than a few manufacturer-backed vehicles that find their way into the exhibition hall.

Most are racy interpretations of existing models, but genuine concepts also show up. When the doors to the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon open this week, the Toyota ViRA concept will be among them.

Designed and built by Toyota Industries Corporation, a Toyota subsidiary tasked with assembling the Vitz (the Japanese-market Toyota Yaris) and Toyota RAV4, the two-door concept is a mashup of those two cars, with a high-riding stance and compact city car dimensions.
