Toyota has unveiled two brand-new petrol engines; employing technology from its current range of hybrids. The company says the new engines will deliver fuel savings of up to 30 percent.
While the new powerplants may be hybrid engines without the electric motor attached, it’s worth noting that neither is turbocharged.
The first new engine is a 1.0 litre unit jointly developed with Daihatsu. Toyota says it combines a high compression ratio and a “tumble flow-generating intake port” to achieve a maximum thermal efficiency of 37 percent.
