Toyota has held onto its position as the top-ranked automotive marque in the annual Brandz Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands survey, with luxury automakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz trailing behind the Japanese auto giant.

Brandz assessed Toyota total brand value at US$29.6 million, a jump of 21 percent against last year's result. BMW was valued at $25.7 million, but only logged a 7 percent increase in overall brand value.

Mercedes-Benz followed at $21.5 million, while Honda and Ford took fourth and fifth place with $14.1 million and $11.8 million respectively.

But though Toyota still reigned supreme among automotive brands, it was still far from being the top-valued brand overall.

Predictably, tech giants Google, Apple, IBM and Microsoft took out the top four spots, with fast-food behemoth McDonalds in fifth place.
