Toyota has released a pair of teaser images for a new concept to be revealed at next week's Beijing Auto Show.

Bathed in shadows and blue light, the images offer two views of the car's sharp front end, hinting at a new electric or hybrid-powered concept.

One image, revealing a three-quarter look at the car, suggests we will see a Yaris-sized concept with five-spoke sports wheels, scalpel-shaped headlights and and a tall front grille.

Toyota's most recent concepts have included the quirky FT-Bh hatch and the NS4 four-door coupe

Toyota says the FT-Bh was designed around a new "Ecomotion" idea, with key panels formed to represent the way fabric can be stretched taut between fastening points, to reflect their ultra-light weight.

The NS4 stands as a radical departure from the brand's usual hybrid styling (think Prius). Toyota says that while the NS4 is strictly a design and technology study, elements of its styling will eventually filter down to the showroom.

Both cars are driven by small petrol-electric hybrid systems, pointing to Toyota's future powertrain plans.
