Toyota Australia has added the big Prado to its family of Altitude-badged models, the special-edition variant gaining $10,000 in additional features from the carmaker's catalogue.

The new features come at a $5000 premium over the cost of the regular GXL grade, with the seven-seat Prado Altitude picking up satellite navigation, a seven-inch touch-screen display and an entertainment system for rear passengers.

Back-seat passengers get a DVD player and nine-inch display, along with 5.1 surround sound and a trio of wireless headphones. The system is controlled from the touchscreen display, or via the included remote control.

Other features for the Altitude variant include a tilt-and-slide moonroof, leather-accented seat trim, privacy glass and Toyota's "Optitron" display panel in the instrument cluster.

There is also three-zone climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, smart entry and start, cruise control and long-range fuel tanks (87 litre main and 63 litre sub).

The Prado Altitude's audio package has been upgraded to 14 speakers (compared to six in the GXL, 12 in the ZR and 17 in the VX). It also picks up a six-disc in-dash CD/DVD changer with remote control.

The rear camera monitor adds a reversing guide overlay, and four parking sensors have been added to the front end - joining the existing four sensors at the rear.

Standard safety features include seven airbags, stability and traction control, anti-skid brakes, hill-assist control and downhill assist control.

Pricing

The Prado Altitude will be produced until the end of April.

  • Prado Altitude 4.0 litre V6 petrol - $68,490
  • Prado Altitude 3.0 litre 4cyl diesel - $69,490

Note: prices do not include on-road costs.
