Toyota Australia has announced a recall for its 100 Series and 200 Series LandCruiser models due to the possibility of airbags that are of “incorrect specification”.

The recall action is concentrated on nine 100 Series vehicles (above) with a potentially dangerous passenger side airbag, 22 LandCruiser 200 Series models with possible passenger airbag issues, and one 200 Series Cruiser for a driver’s airbag issue.

Officially Toyota simply describes the fault as increasing the risk of injury to occupants during a crash, with no further details relating to the issue.

A Toyota spokesperson did confirm that the airbag units being recalled were not manufactured by Takata, and do not form part of the ongoing global Takata airbag recall that has spread across multiple automobile brands.

Affected owners will be contacted by mail to arrange to have the airbag assembly replaced at no charge. Owners wishing to know more are urged to contact Toyota’s recall hotline on 1800 987 366.
