Toyota has unveiled a new three-wheeled i-ROAD city concept EV at the Geneva Motor Show this week.

Billed as a Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV), the i-ROAD features a tandem two seat configuration similar to Renault’s Twizzy EV production model.

Unlike the Twizzy however, the i-ROAD places two wheels at the front and a single wheel at the rear, and the ability to lean into corners like a motorcycle.

The i-ROAD uses a conventional steering wheel, but an “Active Lean” system uses a gyro-sensor to tip the top-heavy body into corners to aid cornering stability.

Measuring just 2350mm long and 850mm wide, Toyota claims similar manoeuvrability to a motorcycle, and a turning circle of just three metres.
