TOYOTA HYBRID R CONCEPT ANNOUNCED
Just what are you planning, Toyota? In a short media release issued today, Toyota has confirmed it will unveil a new hybrid-powered sports concept at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
"At the forthcoming 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Toyota will present an exciting new concept that brings Toyota Hybrid System-Racing technology to the road (and track)," the release reads.
The statement was accompanied by an image of a new 'Hybrid R' badge.
The carmaker has revealed few other details, although it has confirmed that the concept will preview a road-going application of its Le Mans-proven hybrid technology.
It is also possible we could see the first example of Toyota's well-publicised collaboration with BMW.
Reports earlier this year suggested BMW and Toyota (or just one of the two) would unveil a concept at November's Tokyo Motor Show, but it appears the Japanese carmaker could be moving faster than expected.
However, with few confirmed details, it is possible that Toyota's Frankfurt debut will be an unrelated study, built instead on its Prius platform. A powered-up Prius c hatch, perhaps?
For now, we wait. TMR's Tim O'Brien will be on the ground in Frankfurt, so watch for his full coverage.
