The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has praised Toyota’s new HiLux pickup for a strong performance in the latest round of safety testing.
The HiLux maintains its maximum 5-star rating for the new model, but has lifted its standards for pedestrian safety.
The outgoing HiLux in dual-cab 4WD specs was rated as ‘poor’ for pedestrian safety, but the new model makes for a complete turnaround as the rating is now listed as ‘good’ (the highest rating).
Following the assessment, the HiLux becomes the first commercial vehicle to be awarded a ‘good’ rating by ANCAP for pedestrian safety.
The previous score of 32.86 out of 37 possible points has also improved, with the HiLux now scoring 34.45 under a tougher testing regime than that faced by its predecessor.
