Toyota has released a pair of new images and a revealing new video for its upcoming FT-Bh concept, its name an initialism for "Future Toyota B-segment (light cars) Hybrid".

The concept will focus not only on the carmaker's hybrid technology, but also lightweight construction. Toyota says the FT-Bh will offer the interior space of a regular five-door light car, while weighing just under 800kg.

The FT-Bh has been designed to keep manufacturing costs down, using materials already becoming common in the industry, and all with a focus on introducing the new model at a competitive point in Europe's hard-fought city-car market.

The hybrid system is expected to be the only powertrain option for the production version of the FT-Bh, setting it apart from Volkswagen's petrol-powered Up! and the planned e-Up! electric vehicle.

Little else has been revealed at this stage, but with a Geneva Motor Show debut planned next month, more details should surface in the coming weeks.
