Toyota, Ford And Honda Top Annual Green Brands List

Toyota, Ford and Honda have filled the top three places in Interbrand's annual 'Best Global Green Brands' list.

The list ranks the world's most conscientious brands based on “the gap that exists between a corporation's environmental practices and consumers' perceptions of those practices.” The list features nine carmakers for 2013.

Behind the top three, Nissan was the best-of-the-rest with fifth place, followed by Volkswagen, who finished seventh.

BMW was second-best of the German carmakers, making 13th place on the list, while Mercedes-Benz finished in 17th place.

Korean stablemates Hyundai and Kia finished 34th and 37th respectively.

Both Nissan and Ford earned honourable mentions as “top risers”, while Nissan rose from 21st on last year’s list. Kia also earned an honourable mention, arriving in the top 50 brands for the first time. 

“What makes the annual Best Global Green Brands report unique and valuable is that it examines performance and perception in action,” Jez Frampton, Global CEO of Interbrand said.

“The report provides leading brands with the insights they need to develop robust strategies—strategies that will not only drive their businesses forward, but also have a positive impact on the environment and communities in which those businesses operate.”

With carmakers dominating five of the top-ten positions, the other five spots were filled by Panasonic, Johnson & Johnson, Danone, Nokia and Dell.
