Toyota has recalled six of its most popular models in Australia due to a potential problem with the electric windows.

The models in question are the Camry and Aurion twins, the Corolla, the Yaris light car along with the Kluger and RAV4 SUVs.

Build dates for the affected vehicles are from the periods of August 2005 to August 2006, and January 2009 to December 2010.

Toyota stresses that the recall is a precautionary measure, but up to 300,000 vehicles could be affected.

The recall centres around the power window master switch which may have been manufactured with an insufficient amount of grease.

If the grease supply is indeed insufficient, the switch could develop a short circuit which may lead to overheating, smoke or fire in extreme cases.

The carmaker also adds that owners who participated in a recall issued in October 2012 which also targeted the power window master switch will not have their cars recalled for a second time over the same issue.

Toyota will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to know more about this latest recall should contact their local dealer.
