Toyota Australia Announces Recall For Power Window Switch

Toyota Australia is recalling almost 300,000 Australian-delivered vehicles due to a sticky power window master switch.

The Australian recall is part of a global number of 7.4 million affected.

The problem stems from what the company calls a non-uniform application of grease, causing the switch to wear prematurely, or break.

Some owners and repairers have attempted to fix the problem with commercially available lubricants, causing the switch to overheat and melt.

The recall covers several ranges built between 2006 and 2010 and includes Corolla, Kluger, RAV4, Yaris, Aurion and Camry.

Toyota says that only a small number of vehicles will need the window's circuit board replaced and is issuing the recall as a precaution.

Six instances of the problem have been reported in Australia, none of them resulting in accident or injury.

Owners are asked to check the operation of the switch and if it is sticking, to stop using the switch until the problem is assessed and repaired.

The inspection and repair (if required) is expected to take an hour to complete and will be performed at no cost to the owner.
