Audi's next-generation TT is again under the spotlight, with new reports this week pointing once more to a late 2013 unveiling and a 2014 showroom debut.

Appearances in Europe of a TT test mule give away little of what we can expect from the new model, spied wearing the current car's sheetmetal and with a cabin covered in heavy camouflage.

But, look closely, and it does appear that the 2014 Audi TT will sit on a slightly longer wheelbase than the present model.

A repositioned front wheelarch is the only indicator of a dimensional change for the third-gen TT, so don't expect any radical differences in external proportions.

Engines are expected to include the Volkswagen Group's EA888 engine, with a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged mill producing around 165kW.

Reports suggest the five-cylinder turbo in the current TT RS may again appear, but with output boosted to a mighty 285kW.

Under-the-skin changes will, of course, be substantial.

The next-generation TT will be built on the Volkswagen Group's new Modular Transverse Matrix (or MQB) platform, which will eventually underpin everything from the Audi A3 to the next Volkswagen Tiguan.
