Volkswagen’s light Polo GTI performer has been updated for 2015, with a new engine and the introduction of a six-speed manual option.

The Polo GTI’s current 1.4 litre engine will be replaced by a 1.8 litre unit next year, delivering a 9kW power gain and a healthy boost to torque of 70Nm.

The updated model is due to arrive in Australia during the first half of next year, with local pricing and specifications still to be confirmed.

Alfa Romeo’s updated MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde (Italian for ‘green four-leaf clover’) is now on sale in Australia, priced at $30,500 plus on-roads.

Power comes from Alfa’s 1.4 litre MultiAir Turbo engine, producing 125kW at 5500rpm and 250Nm at 2500rpm.

The 0-100km/h dash takes the QV 7.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 219km/h, with fuel consumption listed at 6.0 l/100km.
