Volkswagen has heated up its Golf GTI range, with the arrival of the Performance and the R hot-hatches in Australia this week.

The Performance lifts the ‘regular’ GTI’s power from its 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine from 162kW to 169kW, while the R breaks the 200kW barrier with 206kW.

Prices start at $48,490 plus on-roads for the Performance automatic - $4000 above the regular GTI auto – while the R starts at $51,990 plus on-roads.

The 2014 Lexus CT 200h is now on sale in Australia, priced from $39,990 plus on-roads.

Lexus has streamlined the model range in Australia for 2014, by deleting the previous Luxury model and up-speccing the Prestige model to take over the Luxury name.

The new CT gets improved suspension tuning with optimised coil-spring rates, new shock absorber valving, a stronger rear stabiliser bar and more. Unfortunately, there is no change to the doughy drivetrain.
