The highly-anticipated BMW 2 Series is now on sale in Australia, with three models to kick off the new range.

Prices start at $50,500 plus on-roads for the petrol-powered 220i, while the diesel-powered 220d adds $2000.

The fantastic M235i performer rounds-out the range of launch models, priced at $79,900 plus on-roads.

Citroen gave people-mover buyers a new model to add to their shopping lists this week, with the Australian launch of its new C4 Grand Picasso.

The single-variant seven-seater is priced at $43,990 plus on-roads, and comes with a BlueHDi diesel engine producing 110kW and 370Nm.

A six-speed automatic is the only transmission option. The C4 Grand Picasso’s claimed 4.5 l/100km fuel figure is a vast improvement over the outgoing model and certainly among the best for this type of vehicle.

Nissan’s all-new X-Trail will arrive in Australia soon, and the Japanese carmaker this week outlined local pricing and specifications.

Two petrol engines in 2.0 litre and 2.5 litre capacities will be available from launch, with a diesel option joining the new range later in the year.

Pricing starts at $27,990 plus on-roads for the entry-level ST 2WD, which will be the only X-Trail at launch available with a manual gearbox.

In other news, Volvo teased its Concept Estate this week, before images of the new concept appeared online.

The 2015 Ford Focus also came into view, ahead of its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show.

Hyundai unveiled two concepts ahead of Geneva, the Intrado SUV and PassoCorto Coupe Concept.

It was a good week to be a Melbournian, with news of two attempts to revive a Melbourne Motor Show.

The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix will feature its first-up effort this month offering display space at the F1 Grand Prix to manufacturers, while the Victorian Automobile Chamber Of Commerce (VACC) is looking to 2015 for a new motor show.

Citroen announced an industry-leading six-year, unlimited kilometre warranty for four of its local cars this week, along with six-years roadside assistance.

Jaguar outlined pricing and specifications for its F-TYPE Coupe, ahead of an Australian arrival in July.

The 2015 Mazda2 was previewed this week, with the release of a new official teaser sketch.

And Ford celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Aussie ‘ute’, as the local carmaker prepares to unveil its final Australian designed-and-built ute model later this year.

The NRMA issued a stern warning about Australia’s worrying dependence on foreign fuel, with the release earlier in the week of its “Running On Empty” report.

Skoda unveiled its VisionC Concept, with sharp new styling language giving us a preview of how future models may look.
