Australian new-car sales fell 0.2 percent in August, believed to be a result of uncertainty over the federal election and Fringe Benefits Tax changes.

Still, the industry managed to find new homes for 93,336 cars, with the Mazda3 taking top spot. Toyota continued its dominance in overall sales, followed by Holden, Mazda and Hyundai.

Renault’s all-new Clio hatch arrived in Australia this week, priced from $16,790 plus on-roads.

Engine options include a 0.9 litre three-cylinder, a 1.2 litre four-cylinder and a 147kW turbocharged unit for the Clio RS - although that one isn't due here until next year.

It seemed inevitable and this week it became reality; Infiniti Australia has taken the knife to its pricing across the board to inspire interest among buyers.

Prices on the FX range have been cut by between $7500 and $10,000, while the M range sees cuts of between $9500 and $11,500.

Infiniti sold 37 cars in August, for a year-to-date total of just 207. The company will be hoping for a much better result this month.
