The dust has settled, the numbers are in, and all-new 2015 models are now ‘last year’s cars’.

And what a year it was for new car sales, with VFACTS revealing this week that the market set another new record of 1,155,408 sales for new passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles.

The market was well on track to break the previous record (set in 2013 at 1,136,227 sales) at the end of November, and a solid December - which saw sales up 2.9 percent on the same month last year - sealed the deal. Check out the full rundown here.

Tesla this week announced final sales figures for the 2015 calendar year, with the electric vehicle company bettering 50,000 deliveries worldwide.

A total of 50,580 Teslas were delivered in 2015, including 17,400 in the final quarter of the year.

Of those final quarter figures, 17,192 - or 98.8 percent - were Model S deliveries, while the remaining 208 were for the new Model X SUV.

Subaru this week applied some mild updates to its XV small crossover for the 2016 model year, with a range of cosmetic updates to spruce up the exterior and interior.

Thanks to an influx of new competitors in the small/compact SUV segment (chiefly the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3), sales for the XV have dropped off markedly. While Subaru sold 11,539 XVs in 2014, last year just 7168 rolled out of showrooms.

The 2016 model year updates don't bring anything in the way of substantial mechanical or fuel economy improvements, but the aesthetic upgrades may be enough to get more buyers looking in the XV's direction once more.

In other news, the Renault Nissan Alliance announced plans to deliver ten semi-autonomous models across the four-year period between now and 2020.

The launch of the Volvo V90 wagon was always going to closely follow the S90 sedan, but leaked images this week ahead of the car’s official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March spoiled the surprise.

The US Department Of Justice declared it will file a civil lawsuit against Volkswagen for its ‘dieselgate’ emissions scandal, alleging that it deliberately hid details of emissions defeat devices fitted to as many as 600,000 vehicles.

We've already had a good look at the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class courtesy of official teaser images released by the automaker last month, but leaked images this week showed the exterior ahead of its official unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show.

The Toyota ViRA concept was unveiled ahead of the Tokyo Auto Salon, which is a mashup of the Yaris and RAV4 models.

REVIEWS

We drove the 2016 Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo+ Automatic this week, impressed by its snappy looks and snappy turbo performance but wondering if the value-for-money equation adds up against some of its rivals.

Toyota’s entry-level 2016 Fortuner GX Manual features a family-friendly $47,000 price tag, but we found it may be more at home in the bush than in the ‘burbs.

The 2016 Suzuki Vitara RT-S may be slow, but steady, however its price tag, spacious cabin and equipment list mean it offers plenty of value for money.

We found the 2016 Honda CR-V VTi-L to be a comfortable, calm and well-finished SUV in typical Honda fashion - it’s honest buying.

Finally, we found the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Cruiser is suddenly sexier following its facelift and bottom tuck, offering plenty of cabin space and active safety equipment for a smidge under $45K.

And that’s… the week that was.
