Kia's box-tastic Soul may not have set local sales charts aflame, but new reports overseas suggest its success in the US has ensured a successor.

According to business paper Reuters, an unnamed executive at the carmaker's Korean headquarters has confirmed the coming of a new Soul.

Details of the new car were not offered, although it is likely that the recent Track'ster concept holds some clues as to the look of the new model.

If the Track'ster is what we can look forward to, however, expect those monster haunches to lose a few inches, and the wheels to get decidedly smaller.

Likewise, that meaty 185kW 2.0 litre turbocharged engine would either be swapped out for something more pedestrian - say, the Veloster's 103kW 1.6 litre engine - or reserved for a top-shelf Golf R-rivalling performer.

A five-door version would be the likely volume-seller for the next Soul, but the Track'ster also offers hope for fans of three-door hatches.

Watch for more details on the new Soul in the coming year, but for now, you can look forward to the new Cerato, and the next-gen Rondo.
