Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reportedly said this week that his electric vehicle company could extend its partnership with Toyota in two or three years.

Their relationship has previously produced the Rav4 EV, unveiled at the LA Auto Show in 2010 containing technology from Tesla with a driving range of around 160km.

While production of the Rav4 EV in its current format is due to end soon, Musk said the pair could embark on another “significant” project in the future with greater volumes than their last.

“I think that if you look out maybe two or three years from now, that I would not be surprised if there is a significant deal with Toyota,” Musk said, speaking with industry paper Automotive News.

“My best guess is that it would probably be something significant, maybe on a much higher volume level. We love working with Toyota - we have a huge amount of respect for them as a company and certainly much to learn.”
