Electric wunderkind the Tesla Roadster has wrapped up its Oz Goes Electric tour this week, travelling from Melbourne in Victoria to Port Douglas in far-North Queensland.

The Roadster took in 23 towns in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, covering a total of 3687 kilometres.

Officially, the Tesla Roadster offers a range of 380km on one charge, but with Australia's stretching highways making up a big part of its journey, the little car that could also managed a few 400km stints between stops.

Importantly, the entire 3687km trip, which used a total of 1067kWh, cost just $213.40 in energy. Around 80 percent of the charging used a conventional 10amp connector.

Tesla didn't miss any opportunities to spread the word on the Roadster's virtues, either, with 46 prospective customers taking the Roadster for a spin during the trip.

The American carmaker reports that there were no faults or flat tyres over the entire distance.

The Roadster also took some time out to compete in this year's Targa Tasmania, covering a further 2500km and winning the new EV Challenge class.

The Tesla Roadster is available to buy in Australia right now, priced at $206,188 (plus on-road costs).
