Suzuki has revealed its new iV-4 concept at this week's Frankfurt Motor Show, previewing a new SUV offering for the Japanese carmaker.

Destined for a global debut in 2015, the new model has been touted as a rival for Nissan's popular Juke, which is expected to finally hit Australia in the coming months.

The production version of the iV-4 will enter the Suzuki line-up below the new SX4 and the next-generation Grand Vitara.

Suzuki has revealed only minor details on the iV-4's technical features, although it has confirmed the new model's dimensions, measuring in at 4215mm long, 1850mm wide and 1665mm tall - all riding on a 2500mm wheelbase.

By comparison, the new SX4 - now properly designed as an SUV - measures 4310mm long, making it 160mm longer than the outgoing SX4, and 160mm shorter than the five-door Grand Vitara. The wheelbase has also grown from 2500 to 2600mm.

With those measurements, it is possible the new SX4 will replace the current three-door Vitara - which rides on a noteably smaller 2440mm wheelbase - while the iV-4 enters as a new entry-level compact SUV.

At 4150mm, the outgoing SX4 was already longer than the three-door Vitara, but the new model is now a whopping 305mm longer than the three-door Vitara, with a 60mm longer wheelbase.

As for the iV-4, we suspect it could replace the small and hugely capable Jimny in a modern market that focuses more on roadgoing comfort than offroad function.
