Subaru has today confirmed a 2011 Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) debut for its XV crossover concept, but there is no news as yet from Subaru's local arm on the chances of its all-new 2012 Impreza making an appearance.

The XV Concept's AIMS debut will be only its second motor-show tour since its unveiling at Shanghai in April, where it offered the first-ever glimpse of the new Impreza's styling.

Nick Senior, Subaru Australia's Managing Director, said the event will be used to gauge customer interest in a production version of the compact crossover.

“It promises to be a totally new offering. The XV Concept was warmly received in Shanghai and based on the long-term success of Forester and Outback, we can see this type of vehicle could have huge potential in pursuing a new niche in Australia," Mr Senior said.

“XV Concept is fashionable, practical and underpinned by new generation Subaru technology and we’re hopeful there will be a lot of interest.”

As with the new 2012 Impreza, Subaru's new third-generation 2.0 litre boxer-engine drives the XV concept, sending power through the company's symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system.

The Australian International Motor Show opens at 6pm on Friday 1 July and runs through until Sunday 10 July at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Other new models and concepts confirmed for the 2011 AIMS include the Toyota Prius V and Prius C, the new Peugeot 508 sedan and wagon,  the Suzuki Swift S-Concept, the Range Rover Evoque, the Toyota FT-86 II Concept, the 2012 Audi A6 and the 2012 Jaguar XF

Appearances have also been confirmed for BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics super-hybrid concept, along with the all-new Lamborghini Aventador, the Lexus LF-Gh concept, the Mazda Shinari concept, and a preview of Australian carmaker JOSS Developments' upcoming JT1 supercar.
