Subaru has revealed a new racing development of its 2014 WRX STI performance sedan, destined to compete in this year's Nurburgring 24-Hour endurance race

The new WRX STI sedan has yet to make its official debut, although a series of leaked images and details this week have left little to the imagination.

Likewise, details for this new race car are still to come. Last year, Subaru fielded a racer based on the outgoing WRX STI sedan, driven by a 250kW and 461Nm version of its 2.0 litre boxer engine.

This year's race will be the STI team's seventh consecutive year at the event, and 2014 will see the outfit aiming for its third win in the SP3T class.

Hideharu Tatsumi will again act as team manager and chief developer of the new racer. Japan's Toshihiro Yoshida and Kouta Sasaki have been announced as drivers, and a second pair from Europe will be announced soon.

Watch for the regular WRX STI to make its official debut at next week's Detroit Auto Show.
