Subaru’s rally special WRX STI NR4 has been officially unveiled with the local arm of the Japanese carmaker now seeking expressions of interest from potential customers.

Prepared by Possum Bourne Motorsport (the late, great NZ rally champion) and first announced in July, the NR4 will be available in three tiers, each available with six option packages.

Varying specs for the engine, driveline, suspension and brakes are all on the options list, and buyers will able to select gravel or tarmac setups.

Subaru stresses that these cars are for motorsport use only and cannot be road-registered. Furthermore, the 2.0 litre turbocharged engine is only available locally in this motorsport model.

Buyers will need to fit an FIA-approved roll cage before they go racing, but Subaru can organise this for you at the time of purchase for fitment before delivery.

Among the many available options and features is racing seats with harnesses, interior paint in gunmetal grey, an OMP steering wheel and the replacement of radio, window switch and centre console panels with fibreglass inserts.

The interior sound deadening has also been removed, as have the airbags, and the window switch is relocated to a more motorsport-friendly position.

Naturally, Subaru’s iconic blue is one of the colour options with white being the alternative.

Subaru says the WRX STI NR4 cars are FIA-homologated and are eligible for FIA WRC2, ERC2 regional and progressive national championships, as they meet the FIA’s new NR4 regulations, which replace the previous N4 and R4 classes.
