Subaru has recalled its Tribeca large SUV this week, due to a potential problem with the bonnet.

The carmaker says the bonnet latch may not operate correctly when the bonnet is closed “due to corrosion or lubricant congealing”.

A failing bonnet latch can allow the bonnet to open while driving, potentially blocking the forward view of the occupants and causing a collision. However, no such incidents have been reported in Australia.

Tribecas built between 2007 and 2014 are targeted in the recall, with a total of 9208 vehicles affected in Australia.

The recall program will include a clean and lubrication for the bonnet latch but should the latching mechanism be seized beyond repair, it will be replaced with a new latching mechanism of the same design.
