Subaru has announced that it will commit to pass on savings generated by the recent Japan-Australia Free Trade Agreement, seeing retail prices for some models drop by as much as $1000.

Thanks to the reduction in import duty, the entire Forester range now costs $1000 less, all XV models are reduced by $750 and the Impreza range is $500 cheaper.

The new pricing officially kicks in on January 16, however Subaru Australia has pledged to subsidise all sales by the same amount between now and the 16th as part of its New Year Sale campaign. After the 16th, the new pricing will be permanent.

Although the WRX, WRX STI and Liberty don't enjoy any price reductions, Subaru Australia boss Nick Senior says the pricing of those models (which were all launched in 2014) was already adjusted to provide consumers with a better deal.
