Subaru has recalled a trio of turbocharged models in Australia this week, due to potential problem with a relay.

The carmaker has identified a fault with the secondary air pump relay, which could switch over to draw current continuously.

Should this occur, the relay may overheat, resulting in a fire hazard in extreme circumstances.

Affected vehicles include the Subaru Liberty GT from model-years 2007-2009, the Subaru Impreza WRX and WRX STI from model-years 2009-2014 and the Subaru Forester XT from model-years 2009-2012.

All models are powered by Subaru’s turbocharged petrol engine, and the grand total of 22,276 affected vehicles in Australia includes 2696 Libertys, 7727 Foresters and a combined 12,303 Imprezas (WRX and STI).

The recall process will take approximately 30 minutes at no cost to owners, with replacement parts currently being prepared in Japan.

Subaru will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Subaru on 1300 550 994.
