Subaru has confirmed it will unveil the next stage in the development of its upcoming sports coupe, developed in partnership with Toyota, at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dubbed BRZ Prologue, the concept's name represents three key elements: Subaru's Boxer engine, its Rear-wheel-drive layout, and "Zenith," representing what Subaru describes as representative of the car's "ultimate passion and confidence."

The news follows the unveiling in April of the Boxer Sports Car Architecture, a basic coupe framework and engine housed teasingly in a featureless transparent body.

While it is unclear whether the Frankfurt concept will offer a better look at the car's final design, Subaru has confirmed that production will commence in early 2012.

The upcoming debut of the BRZ dovetails with Subaru's new Motion-V plan, which aims to achieve global sales growth to 900,000 units per year by 2016, compared to the 633,000 sales the company expects to achieve in the current fiscal year.

As for Australia, a decision on a local debut has yet to be made, with fears that the coupe's rear-wheel-drive layout could work against the brand's (all) all-wheel-drive image.
