Subaru has followed this week's BRZ coupe unveiling with an all-new showcar in Tokyo today, in the form of the Advanced Tourer Concept (ATC).
Subaru describes the all-wheel-drive ATC as a "new generation sports wagon," offering a look at what could be a new model in the near future, or simply an idea of the brand's next styling step.
The ATC brings 2009's Hybrid Tourer Concept to a new level, updating the big wagon's styling and replacing its giant gullwing doors with a one-two suicide and scissor door combo move.
Inside, there's a large monitor built directly into the steering wheel with access to maps, television and internet, and above the passengers is a wide panoramic glass roof.
Power for the concept is provided by Subaru's upcoming 1.6 litre boxer engine, integrating direct-injection and turbo-charging.
Subaru hasn't offered any power or performance figures for the new engine yet, but the carmaker has confirmed that it will play a major role in future model lines.
An electric motor is also featured with the ATC, making it a hybrid vehicle capable of electric-only driving over short distances. When decelerating, the regenerating mechanism uses the motor as a power generator.
