The plot of BMW's 1 Series GT story thickens this week, with new spy photos suggesting that a longer body-style will be available in some form.
Until now, the new 'Bimmer' had been spied only in hatch form, but these latest shots reveal a longer wagon or MPV version has been snapped on a car trailer.
Camouflage has kept prying eyes from viewing the car's interior, although the shape of the bodywork suggests that a third row of seating could feature.
As for the broader 1 Series GT range, all variants will ride on BMW's front-wheel-drive UKL1 platform, which will also underpin the next MINI Cooper and around 12 other new models.
News of front-wheel-drive BMWs has polarised fans, but it wouldn't be the first time the carmaker has upset the cart: UKL1 Project manager Frank Niederlaender noted last year that the company first broke with tradition in the 1990s when it began selling SUVs.
With that in mind, a new MPV offering doesn't sound so unlikely.
