SsangYong's ancient Rexton SUV is coming in for its fourth major update, adding an all-new face and a subtly revised backside.

The big SUV has been wearing its current body since 2001, but it has not gone without its share of updates.

Changes over the years have included a facelift and mechanical upgrades in 2006, and emissions-focused tweaks in 2010.

Two teaser images released today reveal that we can expect a massively restyled front-end, with new headlights, a new grille and a new front bumper.

LED daytime running lights will be integrated into the headlamp bodies, and slender new fog lights will feature in the bumper.

At the rear, the existing taillights have grown into the rear quarter panel, and fresh new LED lighting replaces the regular lamps of the outgoing model.

Mechanical changes have not been announced, but we can likely expect SsangYong's new 114kW/360Nm e-XDi200 diesel, which also drives the Korando SUV and the new Actyon Sports pickup.

The updated Rexton is set to make its global debut later this month. Australian details have not been revealed, but TMR has contacted SsangYong Australia for confirmation.
