While SsangYong is currently ‘on the bench’ in Australia, perhaps this all-new full-size SUV may the conduit for local distributor Ateco Automotive to push-ahead with the specialist SUV brand.

Renderings of the all-new vehicle – model code Y400 - have been released by SsangYong UK ahead of its debut at the Seoul Motor Show.

Scheduled for launch in Korea within months and in global markets by the end of the year, SsangYong’s new flagship model measures 4,850mm in length, is 1,920mm wide, stands 1,800mm in height and runs a wheelbase of 2,865mm.

SsangYong says power will come from both petrol and new clean-burning diesel engines and we can expect both rear-wheel-drive and 4WD models.

The SsangYong Y400 will run a new ‘Qaud-Frame’ body which debuts 1.5Gpa giga-steel as well as 63 per-cent high-strength steel.

Despite the brand’s current ‘hiatus’ in Australia, SsangYong continues to enjoy robust sales in some European markets and styling for the all-new Y400 was inspired by the LIV-2 concept car shown at the Paris Motor Show.
