Ssangyong's all-new 2018 Rexton SUV has been unmasked ahead of its official debut at the 2017 Seoul Motor Show.

Following on from the stylish LIV-2 concept shown at the 2016 Paris motor show, and a short teaser campaign, Ssangyong has now revealed the production version which will continue to wear the Rexton nameplate.

SsangYong is currently on hiatus in Australia, and models such as the Actyon Sports are already sold out.

But a return to the Australian market seems largely linked to SsangYong's SUV range, and an all-new Rexton could be one such trigger.

Aimed at the more premium end of the market, the carmaker has put an emphasis on creating a more luxurious cabin with a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Rexton is expeted to receive all-important driver safety aids, with the inclusion of autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring and auto high-beam among others as previewed in the LIV-2 concept.

Ssangyong has previously stated that it will offer two engine variants; a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that can generate 133kW and 420Nm and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that is good for 165kW and 350Nm. Both will be offered with a six-speed manual, while the petrol will utilise a six-speed auto and a seven-speed auto developed by Mercedes-Benz will be fitted to the diesel model.

Both rear- and all-wheel drive variants are expected, with international sales commencing towards the end of the year.
