Korean brand SsangYong has been sent to the bench by local importer Ateco Automotive – and that’s a pity given the all-new XAVL SUV shown at the Geneva Motor Show.
While globally SsangYong is back in the black after nine years, Ateco has called a ‘hiatus’ on the brand until it can secure more competitive wholesale prices from the factory.
Shown as a concept car in Geneva, SsangYong says a production version of the XAVL (the term said to mean ‘eXciting Authentic Vehicle Long’) will be launched in 2020.
SsangYong says the production version will be offered in either two-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive with a choice of a 1.5-litre petrol engine or a 1.6-litre diesel both driving six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
