SsangYong is preparing to evolve its XIV concept range into a new concept dubbed SIV-1, which it will show at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

Marking another step towards a production debut, the images released today hint at a less complex design that promises a sporting new look for the Korean carmaker.

Like the XIV concepts before it, the SIV-1 features a tapered roofline with a high beltline and flared guards, while the front-end reveals long LED-rich headlights connected to a broad letterbox grille.

Mechanical details for the new concept have not been revealed, and it remains to be seen if the SIV-1 will continue the ultra-green approach of the earlier concepts, or adopt a more conventional powertrain.

According to Italian site Omni Auto, the SIV-1 measures 4500mm long and 1880mm wide, making it a potential successor to the still-new Korando, launched in 2010. The current model is 4410mm long and 1830mm wide.

SsangYong has also recently revealed its next-generation Stavic people-mover, expected in Australia later this year.

The brand's Australian line-up currently includes only the Korando small SUV and the Actyon Sports pickup.
